Cityscapes
These are watercolors of different places around the city. One of them is a portrait but I included it anyway. These are offered as unframed giclee’s signed and numbered in a limited edition of 500 prints each and will fit in standard sized frames, most of them are 16x20. They are printed on 300 lb. acid-free watercolor paper and look beautiful matted and framed.
The Bridge Café This little restaurant is right next to the Brooklyn bridge on the Manhattan side. It was established in 1794. I liked its red and black paint and the way the light was hitting it. The Waverly Restaurant I liked the way the light hit this building as well as its simple yet elegant architecture. The traffic light and adjacent subway entrance give some New York charm as does the rear of the taxi cab and the dark shaded street. Ltd. Edition of 500 giclee prints signed and numbered. | Hot Dog Stand It would be hard for you to visit New York and not notice one of these stands with a guy selling hot dogs and pretzels and chestnuts, particularly with a taxicab as the backdrop. The smells and the sounds that come from these stands are inviting on a cold winter day in the city. They’re as colorful and boisterous as the hustle and bustle around them. Ltd. Harry’s of Hanover Harry’s is in the basement of this brownstone, a beautiful example of old New York architecture located at Hanover Square. Surrounded by modern Hi-rise buildings, it fights to hold on to the past with its elegant English charm and inviting gaslights. Seaport Stores I really loved the way the light was dancing through the windows and all the great shadows that were being created on these stores on Fulton street in the South Street Seaport. Signs on Houston Street This is a kind of architectural “junk yard” on Houston St. that sells all kinds of signs and it is quite a site to see. I had passed it a million times and always wanted to paint it and finally did. It is an early overcast winter morning and the glow of light from all these familiar old signs gives the illusion that there is something exciting going on. Ltd. Father and Son My friend Ken was a Princeton graduate, football player and Army captain. His father served on the F.D.N.Y. When Ken’s son was born that magic power most of us fathers feel when we realize we have been given a precious gift and an important responsibility, took over. His lovely wife, Missy, took a photograph of this tender moment between father and son and I was moved by it, so I asked if I could paint from it. Donna Lynn’s This was a nice little café’ on Water Street. It no longer exists so I’m glad I captured it when I did, though the building is still there. This was a hot summer afternoon and the plants and colorful awnings and banner appealed to me as did the reflections in the glass. The guy walking by is eating an ice cream cone. Ltd.
